Sourcing for Retailers / Multi-SKU

Sourcing for Retailers

Retail and supermarket-channel sourcing is rarely one product. It is a list of SKUs that has to arrive consistent, packed the way the channel expects, and released against a record rather than a promise.

01 / What an order holds together

Five things a retail order has to keep aligned.

Each row below states what the work covers, what has to be confirmed with the client, and the record it leaves behind. Nothing here is counted or promised: quantities, prices and lead times belong to the specific order and its PI.

01

Multi-SKU sourcing

One order, several SKUs, one accountable line of communication.

What it covers
Retail and supermarket orders may run across multiple SKUs and multiple suppliers, in batches, with periodic replenishment. Each product line is sourced against the same confirmed requirement, and an exception on one line is raised with the client before the order continues.
Confirmed with the client
Product, quantity, target price and target market, together with material, size, colour and custom packaging requirements.
Record
Requirement brief, supplier screening notes and the quotation comparison behind the order.
02

Packaging and labelling checks

What the retail channel sees is confirmed before the goods are packed.

What it covers
Packaging, label and product information requirements are confirmed with the client for the target market and the retail channel, then checked on the packed goods as part of the pre-shipment check. Market-specific labelling and testing rules are agreed per order; this page asserts none of them.
Confirmed with the client
Packaging, labels and product information for the target market and the retail requirements of the channel.
Record
Packaging check notes with photographs of the packed goods.
03

Carton organisation

Cartons grouped so the order can be staged, checked and released.

What it covers
How the SKUs are grouped and packed is agreed per order, so the goods can be staged for dispatch, checked as packed, and released together. Carton organisation is confirmed before the packed goods are inspected.
Confirmed with the client
How the SKUs are grouped and packed, and the order they are staged in for dispatch.
Record
Packing and carton notes with photographs of the staged goods.
04

Batch-level quality control

Checks run on the production lot before it is released.

What it covers
Production lots are followed from the pre-production material check through to the pre-shipment check, against industry standards and the requirements raised on the order. Photographs and video are taken and issued with the inspection report, and a bulk sample is sent where the order calls for one.
Confirmed with the client
The requirements to check against, as raised on the order.
Record
Inspection report with photographs and video, plus a bulk sample where required.
05

Shipment readiness

Nothing leaves until the written release is in place.

What it covers
Dispatch follows the written client approval of the inspection result or the bulk sample, and the balance payment. The documentation team then prepares the shipping documents and arranges dispatch under the trade terms agreed for that order.
Confirmed with the client
Written client approval of the inspection result or the bulk sample, and the agreed trade terms.
Record
Document archive and the dispatch record.
02 / Status and record

How an order is read while it runs.

The order moves on only when the state below it is settled. Status is carried by its label, not by colour, and each state is held against a document, a photograph or a written approval.

  1. 01 Requirement confirmed The written brief the order is sourced against.
  2. 02 Sample approved Material, size, colour and packaging confirmed by the client.
  3. 03 Pre-production material check Materials checked before production starts.
  4. 04 Production follow-up Progress and exceptions raised with the client before the order continues.
  5. 05 Pre-shipment check Product and packaging checked; photographs, video and a report issued.
  6. 06 Bulk sample where required Sent when the order calls for one, ahead of the release decision.
  7. 07 Written release The client approves the report or the bulk sample in writing.
  8. 08 Balance payment received The order is cleared for dispatch once settlement is complete.
  9. 09 Documents and dispatch Shipping documents prepared and dispatch arranged.

What this page does not claim

Market-specific requirements — labelling rules, testing regimes, certification and import documentation — depend on the target market and the order, and are agreed per project. They are not asserted on this page.

Records are issued under the Huntersourcing letterhead: PI, sample approval, inspection report and the written release for dispatch. Responsibility for transport, customs, import clearance, insurance and target-market compliance follows the trade terms agreed for that order.
